I get quite a few letters from psoriasis sufferers who are starting the Protocol. Some are desperate. Some are worried. Some are afraid. They want advice.
This got me thinking about three very important parts of the protocol that don’t involve the actual 4 parts.
They are:
1. Sacrifice
2. Risk
3. Patience
SACRIFICE
This is mostly about diet. You have to be willing to make some difficult changes. That includes no dairy or foods/beverages fortified with calcium. No exceptions. Period. If you cheat a bit here, you will cheat a bit there. And add to this the high oxalate foods which must be minimized to keep the kidneys happy.
Yes, it’s a bitch! But the protocol won’t work without these changes. I have recently learned (the hard way) that experimenting with a little dairy now and then causes a flare. I thought that maybe, just maybe, after such a long period of time not eating dairy I could sneak a little into my diet. I was wrong! And I paid the price. Lesson learned.
RISK
Just as there is risk taking allopathic (pharmaceutical) medications, e.g.: the side effects (Methotrexate can negatively affect the liver. Biologics suppress the immune system) so too are there risks using the protocol. But the more I read, the more I am convinced that with correct diet, drinking lots of liquids, using the right amount of the supplements, you can both reduce the risks and still get results.
And, yes, I have taken risks over the past five years. But after clearing my skin completely (the first time in 45+ years) I couldn’t go back. I couldn’t stand the thought of having my life dominated again by this disease.
I do a lot of research on vitamin D therapy and the more I read, the more I am convinced of its importance for people with autoimmune diseases. It seems that we (psoriasis suffers) are just one of this group who can’t metabolize vitamin D properly and have to take more to get results. Dr. Coimbra in Brazil has been giving his patients high dosage D3 for two decades. I believe that if there was a serious problem, it would have shown up by now. It hasn’t.
PATIENCE
This protocol is NOT a quick fix. It takes time. And the time varies for a number of different reasons. Your ability to metabolize the D3. Your weight. Your diet. Your stress level. And how you are using the protocol.
The hospital study in Sao Paulo, Brazil (one of the original studies) had the patients taking 35,000 iu D3 daily, no dairy or fortified calcium foods, 2.5 litres of water daily, etc. for 6 MONTHS. In later reports the D3 level was based on body weight. Now, Dr. Coimbra gives as much (and sometimes more) as 1000 iu per kilo (2.2 lbs) of body weight.
For some reason the higher dosage seems to help more. I don’t know why. But for this current flare (albeit a small one) I increased from my 10,000 iu D3 daily (maintenance level) to 20,000 iu. Nothing happened. I increased to 35,000 iu. Still no improvement. At 40,000 it started to very slowly improve. So, I took the risk of going up to 50,000 (which is only slightly lower than the 1,000 iu per kilo of body weight) for me. And it’s working. About 50% clearing so far.
Is there risk involved? Maybe. But I’m willing to take it. I NEVER encourage anyone else to take the same risk. This is my decision only, based on five years of reading and following the information on the doctors who are using a similar protocol.
Everyone reacts differently to this protocol. My body weight was low. I had stopped dairy for two months before starting on high dosage D3 and K2. I had stopped gluten and alcohol and you-name-it! My skin cleared in 6 weeks exactly. Only one other person has had the same fast results.
If you expect results yesterday, you will become discouraged and stop using the protocol. If you cherry pick the protocol it won’t work. In my experience (based on the testimonials sent to us) the people who follow the protocol, don’t cheat on dairy, use magnesium chloride topically, make the necessary sacrifices, take the risk and remain patient–they get results.
I hope you are all doing well and that your skin is becoming smooth and clear.

What about a few teaspoons of milk in tea or coffee twice a day?
If you like playing with fire….sure! But I now use a soy creamer from Silk. Or if you live in the U.S. and have a Trader Joe’s nearby, get their soy creamer (it is the best!) Very nice in tea and coffee. Dakota
