Anger & Psoriasis…a love story?

I felt like moving away from the protocol–in the sense of looking at how an emotion might affect this disease called psoriasis. And I remembered three different parts of books that have the possibility of hooking together.

One was from a book of Chinese medicine or healing that spoke of the liver as  being the seat of anger. Another was one of those you-can-cure-your-psoriasis books that we all fall for at least once–but that did have two good suggestions. One was to stop eating pork totally. The other was to massage the front of the body where the liver was located.

And the 3rd was something written by Louise L. Hay and be darned if I can remember what it was exactly but I think it had something to do with psoriasis and the liver. In any case, in three different places the same connections came up–anger, liver, psoriasis.

So, that’s as far as I’ve got with it. And I have thrown it out a few times in the past year but nobody is biting. We don’t want to admit to anger. I went to my favorite (and the largest) alternative/healing/woo-woo bookstore in Vancouver. I felt a bit uncomfortable asking for books about anger–doing my best not to look in any way angry and explaining that I was trying to make a connection between anger and psoriasis.

And here’s the surprising part. There are so few books that deal specifically with anger. And trust me, if I was going to find the most books on the mind/body connection, etc., this is the store to find them in. Really–very little on anger. Which makes sense in a twisted kind of way. If we don’t understand it or we avoid it or bury it, it comes out in our body. It’s about “inflammation”! Fire! Rage! Anger!

I know for sure that having psoriasis for decades, there were times when I felt enraged and outraged by this disease that wouldn’t leave me alone–that got in the way of everything–that altered my life (not always for the worst–to be perfectly honest–but still). And I just wondered how that emotion might affect the immune system.

I need to let this one simmer for a while. It’s like having lots of clues but no murder weapon–ha!
