I feel optimistic about 2019. Not sure why. Maybe part of the reason is that 2018 ended with one of the best parties ever. A combination of dress up, magic, hilarity, honesty, heart, dancing and basic insanity. Already that was weird because I’ve done my best over the years to avoid New Year celebrations.
And then….well, let me try to describe the situation. I live in an old (over a hundred years old) four apartment building. Next door is “the blue house”, as it’s called. This house has a lot of history. I wish I could pack it all into one sentence.
To simplify–our neighbourhood is, frankly, different. We know each other. It’s not your usual city block where you nod or not to the person who lives next to you. We actually talk to each other.
So, if I need Lucky taken care of for a few hours, no problem. And it feels safe. Even late at night. Except for coyotes, raccoons and skunks. I never seem to see the coyotes. Hear about them. Last sightings, etc. But they don’t seem to be on my radar.
Skunks are another story. I definitely see those regularly and do my best to avoid them. Lucky is pretty independent and is off-leash a good part of the time. But not at night. She’s leashed. I don’t want to deal with the horrors of a skunk sprayed dog.
But, back to “the blue house”. That’s where the party was last night.
Anyway, I don’t know how I got from “the blue house” to skunks, but the entrance into 2019 was encouraging. We took some time out from partying to create a kind of picture for our year to come. So, I’m going to share this little exercise with you. You might enjoy doing it too. It adds a little framework to the year to come. You can customize it as you like.
2019, the year of ____________ (fill in the blank with a word or phrase that describes a perfect year for you. Eg: happiness, intensity, learning, love, meeting people, being in service–your choice)
My color: __________ (for the year–start paying attention to this color)
My flower: _________
My stone: _________ (precious or semi-precious)
My scent: _________ (scent is very powerful for memory/emotion)
An affirmation or saying that inspires you:________________ (made up or found in a book or a movie or from someone’s mouth).
And then I look at areas (physical, mental, emotional, career, etc.) and list a few things that I would like to do (probably should do) such as a little exercise (I’m beyond kidding myself that I’ll be at the gym every morning), set a few goals. Really, it just helps with wrangling the cats that Life throws our way.
So, this is how it’s going to work–this Blog–ideally. I want to figure out how to add an audio component where you can listen to excerpts from my book “Rise & Shine”. And then maybe add a photo now and then. And then add any wisdom or whatever that spontaneously comes my way.
And, of course, I’ll be writing about psoriasis and healing and all that good stuff.
May you Rise & Shine!
Much love,
Dakota & Lucky
